Match the symptom to the first test
| Symptom | First reversible check |
|---|---|
| Cannot connect at all | Separate page/permission errors from network symptoms |
| Video freezes | Pause one large transfer or stream you control |
| Audio/video feels delayed | Observe whether both directions are affected |
| Quality changes repeatedly | Check congestion, signal position, and device load |
| Session disconnects | Record timing and whether the network changed |
Look for clues, not blame
If several live services on the same device struggle, the local device or network is a useful place to investigate. If one session changes while everything else stays stable, preserve the details without declaring either participant responsible. Real-time media can vary with stability, congestion, device load, routing, and session conditions.
Use the smallest-change sequence
Pause one competing upload or download. Move to a stronger, safer network position if practical. Compare another connection only if you are authorized to use it and understand any cost or privacy effect. Then retry once. Do not reset a router you do not own, disable security controls, or consume mobile data without considering consequences.
Distinguish quality from access
A denied camera or microphone request is a permission problem. A blank local camera may be a device problem. A page that never initializes belongs to video not loading. Route the symptom before changing network settings.
Escalate after controlled tests
Record device, browser/version, connection type in general terms, symptom, time, last visible state, and the single changes already tested. Remove network names, addresses, account details, and other identifiers. Use Contact when the public channel is verified.
Use a two-run comparison
Run one attempt under the current condition and note the specific symptom. Change one reversible condition, then run one comparison. If several conditions change—network, browser, device, and application load—you cannot tell which mattered. Stop after the comparison if repeated reconnects are disrupting the account or product state.
Mobile data is a cost choice too
Switching from Wi-Fi to cellular data can create charges or consume a plan allowance and still may not improve stability. Use only a connection you are authorized to access. In public, also consider who can see the screen and hear the conversation.
