A Simple Speaking-Practice Routine for Live Video

Prepare three phrases for one small task, ask whether the other person is comfortable practicing, use the phrases in context, then note what you want to try next time. This is a self-directed routine, not tutoring or assessment.

Prepare three phrases

Opening: “Would you be comfortable with a short speaking exercise?” Clarification: “Could you say that more slowly?” Follow-up: “What do you mean by that word?”

Choose one task

Describe an ordinary object for thirty seconds; give a short opinion; tell a brief story with a beginning and end; or ask one question and follow the answer. The time is a practice shape, not a strict product timer.

Use fallbacks in the moment

Ask for repetition, slower speech, or a rephrased sentence. Rephrase your own idea with simpler words. Do not claim typing or spelling tools unless the final product visibly supports them in that state.

Review communication, not fluency

Where did the message become unclear? Which phrase helped? Next time, simplify, add one detail, change the subject, or repeat the same task. There is no numerical fluency score, pronunciation grade, or promised outcome.

Build one complete round

Goal: describe an everyday object. Prepare: “I want to describe something for about thirty seconds. Is that okay?” Speak: name its purpose, one feature, and why you chose it. Clarify: “What word would you use for this part?” Notice: where did you pause because the idea, not pronunciation, was unclear? Next round: keep the same object and add one comparison.

The example gives the routine a concrete shape without promising that the other person will correct it.

Distinguish noticing from judging

Useful notes are observable: “I could not find a word,” “I used a long sentence,” or “I did not understand the reply.” Labels such as “bad accent” or a score add judgment without guidance. Choose the smallest next adjustment.

When the partner is not interested

Thank them and continue as an ordinary conversation or end. Do not argue that the exercise is short or ask them to become a teacher.
