PRESSURE IS A REASON TO PAUSE

Common Video Chat Scam Signals

Pause when someone creates urgency, asks for money or codes, sends an unexpected link, demands secrecy, threatens you, or pushes quickly to another service. A live-looking video does not prove identity, intent, or control of an account.

The FTC advises independent verification for unexpected requests, and the FBI's sextortion guidance explains impersonation and pressure patterns. These are outside resources, not ChitChatVideo features.

If you already acted

  • Money: contact the payment provider through a known channel; ask about available protections.
  • Credentials or codes: use the genuine service to secure the account, change affected credentials, and enable MFA where available.
  • Identity data: US users can start at IdentityTheft.gov; other users should use their local official service.
  • Intimate image or threat: stop contact, do not pay or redistribute, report where appropriate, and use the eligible resource listed on recording awareness.
  • Immediate danger: contact local emergency services.

Use product tools for their actual purpose

Leave first if needed. Report and Block are separate actions and cannot promise a particular outcome. See suspicious links for the pre-click and post-click decision path.

A live image can still support impersonation

A person may use stolen material, a replay, another device, social engineering, or a real face paired with a false story. Do not ask for more private images or identity documents as a test; those create new exposure. Verify a claimed organization through an independently known contact and treat an unfamiliar individual's identity as unconfirmed.

Do not pay to stop a threat

Payment does not guarantee deletion, silence, or the end of demands. Stop contact, use the appropriate report path, secure affected accounts, and seek official or specialized help. Preserve only safe context requested by that route.

Protect someone else being impersonated

Do not publicly accuse or repost the image. If a known person's identity appears involved, contact them through an established channel without forwarding harmful material.
