Safety action: Leave a Chat Now
Before
Check the entire camera frame, not only your face. Remove documents, badges, notifications, and location clues. Keep passwords, verification codes, payment details, government identifiers, exact routines, and private images out of reach. Decide what behavior will make you end the chat.
During
Notice the pressure level. Ordinary disagreement may need a topic change. Repeated requests after a clear no call for an exit. Threats, coercion, explicit content, demands for money or codes, or pressure to open a link are reasons to leave immediately. A live-looking image does not verify identity.
After
If nothing concerning happened, review whether you exposed more than intended. If pressure or misconduct occurred, decide separately whether to block, report, secure an account, contact a payment provider, or seek specialized help. Do not re-enter a harmful conversation to collect more material.
Signal ladder
| Signal | Response |
|---|---|
| Low concern | Slow down, ask a neutral question, keep details limited |
| Pause | Decline, change topic, or end the conversation |
| Leave now | End contact; use safety and outside-help paths as appropriate |
Quick pressure screen
Pause when someone creates urgency, demands secrecy, wants a code, requests money, pushes an unfamiliar link, insists on moving elsewhere immediately, or uses shame or threats. Continue with scam signals or suspicious links rather than negotiating.

Audit indirect clues before the first match
Say the details visible or audible in the room to yourself: a parcel label, calendar, uniform, transit announcement, school name, family photograph, smart-speaker response, or a window view. Ask what an unfamiliar person could combine, not only what each object reveals alone. Move sensitive material out of view, silence identifying notifications, and protect other people who have not chosen to appear.
