MAKE MICROPHONE ACCESS CLEAR

Allow Microphone Access for Video Chat

Video matching needs microphone access. A muted microphone and a denied permission are different states, so identify which one you are seeing before changing settings. Allowed permission also does not prove that the intended microphone is selected or producing usable sound.

Ask two questions first

Was access requested? If a browser request is visible, read it and choose the setting you intend. If no request appears, a previous site decision or device privacy control may apply.

Is the in-call microphone control muted? Muting a working, permitted microphone affects the active conversation; it is not the same as denying browser access. Follow the visible product state rather than changing system privacy settings unnecessarily.

Follow the audio path

Your voice reaches an input device, the operating system exposes that device to the browser, the browser applies site permission, and the product uses the permitted input in the current session. Check the earliest uncertain point. ChitChatVideo cannot override browser or operating-system privacy decisions.

Permission and input are separate

If permission is allowed but there is no sound, a different built-in, headset, display, or Bluetooth microphone may be active. Move to Microphone Not Working for input diagnosis. If sound exists but is quiet, noisy, or echoing, use Improve Audio Quality.

Respect privacy indicators

Browsers and operating systems may show indicators while a microphone is in use. Their appearance varies. End the relevant conversation and close access when finished. Do not use an unfamiliar screenshot as proof that your own platform is in a particular state.

Return after one change

Save work before a restart. Make one relevant permission change, return, and observe whether the current state changed. If the microphone is available, continue through the existing product journey.

If the microphone indicator remains active

End the current conversation and close the product state that is using media before changing unrelated settings. Check which tab or application still shows microphone activity. Do not assume that a visible system indicator identifies the cause by itself; several tabs or apps can request the same device. If access continues unexpectedly after the relevant page is closed, use the operating system's current privacy controls and official vendor guidance for the exact version. Record what you observed before restarting so the symptom is not lost.
